Pulling Together: Caring for Our Community with FLOW

August 18 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Volunteer with Leadership Columbus alumni members and the Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW) as we help weed out invasive species like honeysuckle and ragweed from a Clinton-Como park, creating space for native plants and a healthier ecosystem. FLOW’s mission is to keep the Olentangy River and its tributaries clean and safe for all to enjoy, through public education, volunteer activities, and coordination with local decision-makers.

Dig in, get your hands dirty, and connect with fellow alumni! Water and light snacks will be provided.

Volunteer information provided by FLOW:

  • FLOW events are rain or shine, but we willcancel in case of extreme or adverse weather conditions (e.g. lightning, temps below 25 or above 90, etc.).
  • All tools will be provided by FLOW (gloves, shovels, litter grabbers, etc.)
  • FLOW will also provide a first aid kit, bug spray, poison ivy wash, hand sanitizer, and snacks.
  • Upon arrival, we’ll ask everyone to scan a QR code to fill out FLOW’s online volunteer form that also serves as a waiver. We’ll then do a quick safety talk and demonstrate any special tasks (if applicable)
  • Attire: Please come prepared
  • Dress for the weather and working outside. We don’t cancel events due to rain or snow.

  • Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or wet. We highly recommend long pants and long sleeves (even in the summer) to help protect from sun, bugs, poison ivy, etc.

  • Wear sturdy, close-toed shoes (no sandals!) that you don’t mind getting wet or dirty.

  • Other health & safety items to consider bringing: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen.
